Session with Enid Webb & Family

Family Portrait Session with Enid, Natalie & Grace Webb

This was a really fun session.  I am just getting out there and starting to take images of people.  For years I focused on landscapes and inanimate objects.  I have always heard that people add so much more to an image; and they do.

The location chosen for the session was the park in Genoa across from the Country Store.  It is kind of hidden away in a quiet and shaded little spot.  It is a beautiful place to take outdoor portraits and I am so happy I have my friend, Jennifer Cantley, who showed me the park when I photographed her a couple of weeks earlier.

The park starts out with a few picnic tables, where I sat an hour before the session, planning spots to photograph, putting props together, and preparing in general.

As Enid and her girls, Natalie & Grace, showed up, I helped them with anything they had in their car that they might want during their session.  We then signed contracts and got all of that stuff out of the way and then we were off to begin our session!

For the session, we had headpieces made of pink and green beaded garland and a fuchsia feather boa.  The girls had fun playing around the long cream-color sheer curtain that was flowing from a tree branch.  We also had a white fuzzy rug for the girls to sit on and flowers with which to play.  Enid brought bubbles and the girls played in them while I took some pictures.  We took a break too, had some snacks and drinks, and then continued our session.

The park if filled with beautiful trees with lots of shade and green grass and we took full advantage of these earthly aspects. There are also a couple of old buildings that are really cool to take pictures in front of, but we did not access them this time.  The entrance seemed to be closed or I was in the wrong spot to enter there.  So, we went down the dirt road a little bit and found a nice shaded spot, and a scary bee!  With super-mom Enid to the rescue, no one was injured or hurt.  The bee flew away and three hours of time did too as we finished up our session.

Enid is such a sweet and beautiful woman. I loved having her glowing light around me and the opportunity to photograph her and her two daughters, Natalie & Grace.  I had all these Ideas for her girls and she just let me go with it. She just went with my plan and flow and I with the natural flow of the girls.  I have figured out the key to photographing children, no matter what their age.  The key is to let them go about and do their own thing.  If they are allowed to be themselves and play, as children do, then better pictures are rendered from each session.

When I was taking their images, I could feel such a strong bond between a mother and her daughters.  And the girls are such well-behaved young ladies, fitting their elegant names so perfectly.

I would like to thank Enid, Natalie & Grace once again for being a part of my portfolio session for BlackTree Photographie.  They are a wonderful addition to my collection!

Session with Jennifer Cantley and Family

11 May 2014

On the 10th of June, 2014, Jennifer Cantley wanted to give her mother a beautiful gift for Mother’s Day: A family portrait session. She did just that.

The session went perfectly. The location was in Genoa in the lovely park on the corner across from the Country Store. I had no idea where I was going, nor did I have many ideas on locations in the area, for I just moved here less than a year ago.

When I inquired about locations, she said she had the perfect place in mind, and it is a perfect place to photograph people. The light is absolutely gorgeous in the park at 5 o’clock in the evening. I chose the evening because that is when the golden hours happen. It is much easier to get nice lighting in these hours as opposed to the middle of the day, where the sun blasts down on delicate human skin and creates a washed-out look.

Jennifer arrived at the location with three very sleepy little boys. They were not in the mood for pictures, or anything else for that matter, when they were just waking up. I cannot blame them! I wouldn’t want to do a photo shoot either if I had just woken up!

We walked across the street to the park and let the boys play and wake up while Jennifer and I talked about poses and ideas and waited for her mother, brother and sister-in-law to arrive.

We did some photos with Jennifer and her middle son, Gabe first. He is a cute, curly red headed little fellow and very sweet. I can tell he loves his mom very much by the images I took.

Then we took some images of her baby, Jaxson. This little man just lit up my camera and gave me some really great images with which to work. It was this little guy who made me fall in love with photographing and decide I wanted to photograph babies.

Next, we walked over to the play area, where Aunt, Uncle, Grandma, Gabe and her oldest son, Joey were. I shot a few pictures of Joey playing. We let the boys play for a bit and then decided to go over and play in the grass, with some trees and sit on the steps for some portraits. Joey was absolutely adorable when they were playing around the tree. He made the funniest faces that had some really great personality to them.

Lastly, we photographed her brother and sister-in-law, Derek and Jess. They just got married a few days ago, so I wanted to get some engagement images of them for my portfolio. They are so cute together and you could just see the love surrounding them in their images.

At the end of the session, I could tell everyone, especially Jennifer, was getting tired. She is such a busy mom, recently opening a business, which she runs with Alycia Tanner, Shop Small Northern Nevada. This is a wonderful business who helps other small businesses get their name out there and get new clients and customers. Even when she was exhausted, Jennifer was a strong trooper, She put on a face that I could not have put on after running my business, living and caring for three little ones and she probably had more to do when she came home! Jennifer is such an inspiration and I admire her strength to accomplish her goals and keep her head up when the going gets tough.

The Cantley’s are an awesome and fun family! I hope to have many more sessions with them!

Sneak Peek from Yesterdays Session

Here is a sneak peek of one of the cute little guys I photographed on location yesterday evening in Genoa, Nevada. This one was such a happy little baby! There are 2 more little boys, mom, grandma, aunt and uncle.  I think that I have found a new love…photographing babies.  There is a luminous glow that surrounds babies, for some mysterious reason, that does not surround anyone else.  I absolutely love the results of these images!  This session was so much fun and it’s awesome to have new images to play with.  More images coming in 2 weeks!
